More wisdom from Scott Hahn

We were all taking John 6:53 figuratively [when I was Protestant]. We don’t literally eat his flesh or drink his blood. But if Jesus was only speaking figuratively, it would’ve been very easy to say, ‘Guys, I’m only using a figure of speech. C’mon.’ But I noticed that isn’t what Jesus did. But that’s exactly what Jesus would’ve had to do if that’s all he meant. He says four times to this huge crowd, ‘Eat my flesh and drink my blood’ and suddenly it’s no longer a huge crowd. Most of them leave him that day.

NEW! From Bishop Fulton Sheen

As death approaches,
the human heart speaks its
greatest words of love to
those it holds most dear.

So it was with Jesus who in
His final hours gave us seven
last “words,” rich with spiritual
meaning for every human soul.

For the first time ever,
Archbishop Fulton Sheen's
complete writings and reflections
on Christ’s last words have been
compiled into this one book.

Archbishop Sheen shows how
the seven words are, in fact, a full
catechism on the spiritual life.

From them, you’ll learn the secrets
to living the Beatitudes, ways to avoid
the deadly vices of anger, envy, lust, and
pride, and how to cultivate the heavenly
virtues of fortitude, prudence,
justice, and charity.

With Archbishop Sheen
as your guide, you’ll also learn:
  • Why, during His Passion, Jesus never proclaimed his innocence.

  • Why Jesus appealed to His Father to forgive, but did not Himself forgive directly.

  • What Jesus’ third word from the Cross says about lust.

  • Why, like Jesus, the most innocent among us must suffer.

  • Why darkness covered the earth after Jesus spoke his fourth word.

  • The seven words spoken unto Jesus while He hung on the Cross — and what they reveal about the impact of Christ’s Passion on your soul.

  • What the Passion says about judging others (and why it’s an assault against hope).

  • How the conversion of the good thief is the key to the conversion of our modern world.

  • Why you and I can sin a thousand times and be forgiven, and the angels who have sinned but once are eternally unforgiven.

  • How envy becomes the denial of all justice and love.

  • The difference between the virtue of hope and the emotion of hope.

Few books are such
an inspiring call to sanctity,
and few books are such a
spiritual powerhouse.

Do you tire of hearing
Christ referred to as
"Jesus our friend"?

Do you long to recover
a sense of the dignity and
power of the Son of God?

The holy priest Romano Guardini
will take you into the mind and heart of
God's Son, helping you to understand
the inner logic of Jesus's ministry:

✓ Why did He not heal all the
sick (in his time and now)?

✓ Why did He never travel far
from the dusty fields of Palestine?

✓ Why did He not simply
demonstrate his power to
the influential people of his day?

✓ Why could He not conform to
conventional ideas of what
it means to be a hero?

God is calling you to holiness,
and if you understand the path
Christ took, you can better understand
the path God is choosing for you now.

Msgr. Guardini mentored
Pope Benedict XVI, just as he will
mentor you through these pages.

"As we are taught by Guardini, the essence of Christianity is not an idea, not a system of thought, not a plan of action. To become truly real means to come to know Jesus Christ and to learn what it means to be human."

Pope Benedict XVI

Wisdom from Fr. Donald Haggerty

A sign that our soul may be drawing closer to God is to realize that while we may be more content than ever in our life, we have also become more incapable of permanent satisfaction in anything this life can offer.

More wisdom from Cardinal Francis Arinze

Those who exercise a prophetic role should not be surprised if they meet with coldness or even opposition. They may not be easy to live with, because they may concentrate on comforting the afflicted, they may unconsciously afflict the comfortable. People who live mediocre lives or who prefer to remain comfortable in their social nests may think the prophets upset the status quo and accuse them of being disturbers of the peace.

Wisdom from St. Teresa de Avila

“Let nothing disturb you; let nothing frighten you. All things are passing. God never changes. Patience obtains all things. Nothing is wanting in him who possesses God.
God alone suffices.”

~ St. Teresa de Avila

Wisdom from Scott Hahn

For two weeks straight I went to Mass. I can’t begin to tell you what I was experiencing. I was falling head over heels in love with Jesus Christ as though it was the first time. Only in this case, it was the Holy Eucharist, it was the Blessed Sacrament, it was the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. And I was watching as the Bible just came to life.

More wisdom from Mark Miravalle

Receiving Jesus in the Eucharist is temporary but extraordinary, whereas Jesus indwelling in your soul is meant to be forever. You need grace to stay in grace, which is why Jesus is inside you—and the Eucharist is the greatest source of sanctifying grace.
