Lord God, Creator and Author of human life, these days we realized that
life is not ours. Everything we have and we are -- we had not gained
nor purchased, but you give them -- life and body-- freely, so we could
improve and take care of them for your glory. You showed to us how weak
and fragile human life is, and you showed what really is important, as
your Son Jesus Christ has taught: "Is life worth more than food, and
body worth more than clothing?", so that we might not hope for the
things in this world, but only to you, the generous God of Life. We have
sinned against you in one way or another, by offending and maltreating
life, and letting others trample on the true beauty and dignity of our
being. We forget that we live and move and have our being in you.
Therefore, we ask your forgiveness and may you have mercy on us.
We remember in the Scriptures it is written: "You spare all things, for
they are yours, O Lord, you who love the living." (Wisdom 11:26). In
your great mercy, look upon us, especially the members of your Church,
entreating you to keep those precious lives safe in this time of
adversary. Have pity on the poor who had lost their meager possession
and homes. May the involuntary suffering they experience gain for them
your favor and a bountiful reward in this life and in the life to come.
Have pity on the ignorant, on the stubborn, on the proud, and on those
who do not believe in you and offend you the most. Invite them to you
once again, for you are the God of our origin, in whom we can have no
other destination in the end.
May Mother Mary, the Help of
Christians, Refuge of Sinners, Comforter of the Afflicted, pray for us,
that we may endure in your grace and love until the final stand. May the
glory and praise be yours, as we give back to you your right in our
lives and of the rest of the earth. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
