Feast of St. Joseph the Worker 

“Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?” – Matthew 13:55

I was a single missionary for almost 20 years. I lived in a slum area with the poorest of the poor. Then I entered a totally new world—that of being a married man—and I had to grow in my financial life. I had to throw away my biases against entrepreneurs, businessmen, and the rich.

But thank God I did, because I was able to meet phenomenal people—people who are entrepreneurs and right smack in the middle of the marketplace but are serving God and His people. I thank God I threw away my biases.

Once upon a time, I wanted to deal only with Catholics because I am Catholic. But when I started to befriend non- Catholics, I learned so much from them. When I began to talk with people who don’t go to church, I learned from them too.

Removing your biases will enrich your life. It will broaden your horizon and, yes, you will receive blessings and wisdom. My friend, this is the agenda of Jesus. He wants us to love everyone—people of any language, color, or economic strata. Every person is a child of God, and He dwells in every person. Bo Sanchez (bosanchez@kerygmafamily.com)

Dear God, let Your love overflow into my life right now. I open myself to the work of the Holy Spirit in my heart and in my mind. Melt any biases that I still have. Amen.
