More Wisdom from Adrienne von Speyr

Already at the moment when Peter becomes the Rock, he is burdened with the Church. The Church is the total burden of every Christian, but this burden finds its official expression in the Rock. The Church is the burden of everyone, for no one is dispensable in the Church, and no one is authorized to pass the burden on to other Christians. Each one has his personal mission in the Church; this is the office entrusted to him by the Lord. When the Lord assigns the burden of the ecclesial office to Peter, his whole person is claimed for this office. Christians honor in Peter and in every priest the office, not the person, but everyone holding a hierarchical office in the Church must know that he himself may not separate the office from the person.
