The fact that we have our doctrine down, the fact that we have our monotheism pat, doesn’t mean anything. The demons know that. Satan himself is probably the best theologian over any human being on earth. This kind of faith gives assent to the truth. Where do you find the loudest affirmations of Christ’s divine origin? The demons that he expels are crying out, we know who you are! You’re the Son of God! You’re the holy one of Israel, and so on and so forth. They understand, they have a certain faith, but it isn’t a faith formed by love; it’s a faith that has been distorted and contorted by their own unbelief, their own sins against charity, if you will. |
