More wisdom from Dr. Scott Hahn

Luke 10:17: “The seventy returned with joy saying, ‘Lord even the demons were subject to us in your name.’ And he said to them, ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.’” A decisive triumph. Why? Because here is the prophet Messiah, sending out disciples—seventy of them—and it was effective. There have been no contacts between Jews and Samaritans. What Jesus has just initiated is unprecedented in the history of Jewish-Samaritan relations. And there were healings, there conversions, there were exorcisms in the unlikeliest place of all. And really it was the unlikeliest, because though the Samaritans are closer to the Jews than say Gentiles, you might say that the Jews, especially the stricter ones like the Pharisees, were harsher towards the Samaritans than they were the Gentiles. Why? Because of the way the Samaritans were believed to have betrayed Israel.
