Whenever a sinner admits his guilt in confession, a double movement takes place between him and his sin. In recognition and admission, he identifies himself with his guilt and affirms that he is a sinner. In acknowledging that it belongs to him and him only, he puts himself at a distance from it by repenting. Precisely this complete acceptance of his guilt in recognition and repentance leads to complete release. The sinner confesses so that the guilt will be taken from him. He binds himself to this guilt so that he will be released from it. |
